OJPH seeks a new editor

UPDATED The Ohio Public Health Association is pleased to invite interested candidates to applyfor the position of Editor of the Ohio Journal of Public Health. This three-year appointment, supported by a modest stipend, runs from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2027.

 

Candidate requirements include:  
  • Current faculty or administrative appointment in a School, College, or Department of Public Health or similar discipline, at an institution of higher learning in Ohio

OR

  • Possess a terminal degree (PhD., , DrPH, M.D., J.D., etc.) and hold a position or appointment in a public health or healthcare organization

OR

  • Be retired from a position similar to those described above

AND

  • Have prior experience in authoring, publishing and performing peer review of manuscripts
  • Be familiar with multiple research designs and methods
  • Demonstrate exceptional communications and organizational skills
  • Hold or attain membership in the Ohio Public Health Association for the duration of editor and board appointments

 

Essential skills include:

 

  • Familiarity with word processing (e.g., Microsoft Word) software
  • Prior experience with, or willingness to learn to navigate the Open Journals system used forsubmission management and peer review
  • Ability to coordinate tasks and communications among copyeditor, journal publishing staff, and editorial assistants

 

Responsibilities of the position include:

 

  • Recruit and select peer reviewers
  • Communicate results of peer review with authors
  • Make final decisions regarding acceptance for publication in OJPH
  • Create or commission journal cover
  • With copyeditor assistance, prepare articles for publication
  • Identify topical papers for promotion on the Prognosis Ohio podcast
  • Convene at least one annual meeting of the OJPH Editorial Board
  • Participate as an active member of the OPHA governing board
